
The weakest link in a company’s cybersecurity posture is often found in its supply chain.
Fractional CISO Research evaluated 116 of the most common technology services used by its clients for recent history of information security incidents. We found that 39% of services have suffered information security incidents since January 2021. This number includes both cybersecurity breaches conducted by malicious actors and self-made availability incidents resulting in service or resource downtime.
Supply Chain Attacks are Very Prevalent
The other big stat? Over 56% of cybersecurity incidents we noted have been the result of, or part of, supply chain attacks.
A supply chain cyber attack is when an attacker breaches a target organization by first compromising a part of their supply chain. SaaS providers are particularly valuable subjects for attackers to carry out supply chain attacks with.
